YOWLI 2012 Call for Applications






Call for applications for the fourth edition of the
Young Women's Knowledge and Leadership Institute (YOWLI/IJAL)
               
"Young People Defining Social Justice Agenda in Africa"



The African Women’s Millennium Initiative (AWOMI) organizes from 27 December 2012 to 3 January 2013 in Dakar, Senegal the fourth edition of the Young Women Knowledge and Leadership Institute  (YOWLI).

YOWLI is a space for exchange and capacity development to reinforceknowledge, networking, organizing and advocacy. It has provided to hundred of young people the opportunity to create their own organization, to advance in their professional developmentto speak for the voiceless or to go back to school to continue their graduate studies.

Through this training, AWOMI wants to contribute to the creation and consolidation of democratic citizenship based on dialogue between Africa’ syoung women and men, its Diaspora and its policy makers.
  
The YOWLI always includes an economic literacy dimension. It brings together young activists with a few economics students interested in inequalities andsocial justice issues. This year, the YOWLI will facilitate a dialogue on and sharing of lessons learnt from youth involvement in the past Senegalesepresidential elections. Indeed priority will still be given to a significantparticipation and representation of young women in the YOWLI. International legal instruments such as the Beijing Platform for Action and others will be examined. Some of the adolescents will also be invited to the YOWLI.

Cost to participate:
For participants who will be fully funded by the program, plane ticket or ground transportation and room and board will be provided.
Participants who self-fund their participation should cover their travel costs and pay $3000 for participating.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Be African for of African descent
  • Be aged between 18 and 25 by December 2012
  • Be a student member of an organization
  • Be tolerant, truthful and humble; demonstrate leadership abilities; be creative and demonstrate critical thinking abilities.
